There are many reasons you might want to unpair your Apple Watch. Maybe you’ve upgraded to a new model, plan to sell or trade in your old one, or simply want to gift it to someone else. Whatever your reason, unpairing your Apple Watch is straightforward, though it’s important to know that doing so will erase all data, effectively performing a factory reset.
Here’s a quick guide to help you unpair your Apple Watch.
Total Time Needed: 5 Minutes
What You’ll Need:
- Apple Watch
- iPhone
Steps to Unpair Your Apple Watch
Step 1: Place Your Apple Watch and iPhone Close Together
Ensure your Apple Watch and iPhone are close to each other, as they need to stay connected during the unpairing process.
Step 2: Open the Apple Watch App on Your iPhone
Launch the Apple Watch app from your iPhone’s home screen.
Step 3: Go to “My Watch” Tab and Select “All Watches”
In the app, tap the “My Watch” tab, then tap “All Watches” to view all watches paired with your iPhone.
Step 4: Tap the “i” Info Button Next to the Watch You Want to Unpair
Select the “i” information icon next to the watch you wish to unpair. This will open further settings for that watch.
Step 5: Select “Unpair Apple Watch”
Tap the red “Unpair Apple Watch” button. Remember, unpairing will factory reset your watch, erasing all data.
Step 6: Confirm the Unpairing and Choose a Cellular Option
Confirm that you want to unpair the watch. If you have a cellular plan linked to the watch, decide if you want to keep it. If you’re keeping the watch, you may want to retain the cellular plan; otherwise, you can choose to disconnect it.
Step 7: Enter Your Apple ID Password to Finalize
To complete the unpairing, enter your Apple ID password. If needed, you can reset your password through Apple’s site.
Additional Tips
If you don’t have your iPhone handy, you can still reset the watch directly on the device. However, unpairing through your iPhone is ideal because it creates a backup of your watch’s data and settings. This backup can be used to restore your content to a new Apple Watch.
And that’s it—your Apple Watch is now unpaired and ready for its next chapter!
